dentist
Remember the scene in Little Shop of Horrors with the dentist? For the last 15 + years that's what envisioned as a dental appt. I would go in and they would tell me that all my teeth needed to be pulled, and I couldn't leave the building until they had been extracted. I frequently have dreams that my teeth are falling out.
But no more.
I went today and had my first exam in over 15 years. I have 1 itsy-bitsy, tinu cavity in a lower wisdom tooth! That is it! I made it through JR High, High School, College, and pregnancy without jacking up my teeth! THIS, my friends is a Christmas Miracle.
I went ahead did a "scaling" procedure which is pretty much what it sounds like. My gums are a bit sore. But 1 cavity!!!!! It's even on a useless tooth!
Give it up for hard tooth brushes and hard brushin!
(JP shall return with other updates soon).

It is 9:29pm and I am prepared to accept that.
Thanks a lot Doug for the referral of Quick Change.
Wow.
What a gem.
No.
Really.
Mean it.
Jack bit me on the shoulder tonight. It did hurt, but I "over reacted" in hopes to discourage him from biting. So his response was to bite me again (keep in mind he is in the bath tub). Jean slapped his hand and raised his voice. I think it shocked him (not sure why-it usually doesn't phase him) and he lowered his head to cry. In the process he hit his head on the side of the bath tub. So now he's even more upset. He AGAIN lowers his head to cry and this time dips his entire face in the water. Oops.
So he's doing better, everyone is happy and decide that Jack needs "naked time". He. of course, takes a dump in the floor. Why wouldn't he?
JP has been working alot. One night this week he didn't get home until 3AM. We had a chance to get a free vacation in Williamsburg, VA in October but it looks like JP won't be able to take off work. It sucks. That was kinda our only hope for a REAL vacation. Such is life.
Melanie is enjoying school. She says she's not at all homesick--which is really awesome. That's how it should be. There's nothing wrong with being homesick, but it's a bit early in the game for all that.
This weekend is jam-packed with stuff. Kris's birthday dinner (nearly a week late--HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNCLE KRIS!), Ryan's wedding, Mom's birthday, Tropic Thunder with James and Amy,and dinner with Lauren. Lauren was a student of mine at the dance studio. She was a great dancer and worked very hard. I have run in to her once or twice over the years but we are FINALLY getting together to hang out and truly catch up. All of the girls have grown up so much. It blows my mind to hear what they're up to these days, or who they're dating, what grade they're in and what college they are going to! Some of them even have kids! I AM GETTING OLD!!!!!!!!!
On that depressing note--I am gonna crash. Lalashusha and other stuff, as an old friend use to say.

The weekend update
After the migraine from Hell on Thursday (thank you sooo much Dr. B, Kim and Kristin) I have recovered from my coma and am back in action.
Jack boy is still using the potty. He let's us know when he has to go (only #2) by saying "SHOO!". He has a cold right now--but it's just that. A cold. I pray that we will continue to avoid antibiotics.
Some close family and friends got together last night for Melanie's last night in the 'boro...for a while, anyways. We went to a Japanese (shocker) restaurant. Jean and I pretty much chased Jack around all night. I got to talk to Janice some, which was nice as I have not seen her in quite a while. I didn't get much of a chance to talk to Melanie. Hoperfully, she will get with the program soon and get on G-Talk so we can keep in touch better.
Which reminds me...Mom and Dad moved a MILLION things to her dorm today. Don't they make you move all that stuff back out at Christmas? That is gonna suck.
We went to see Melia today for her second birthday. She and Jaelyn were too cute in their matching bathing suits and flip-flops. Miranda has done an awesome job decorating the girl's rooms and new baby Ainsley's (sp?) room. Marshall has put up a fence and put together a really nice swing set for the kiddos. It was too cute--2 big girl swings and a baby swing. It was hilarious watching Alexa and Jack riding together in the pink Jeep while "You can't hide those lying eyes" was jamming out on the little Jeep radio. They are both so blonde headed and they both know EXACTLY what they want--and that's all there is to it. Come to think of it, I think all the little cousins are that way. They are all very self-assured independent little people. I think that's a good thing although we may be in for trouble in 10 years or so...
We went to dinner with the Badem's and one of the drug reps tonight. It was a nice (free) meal with good company. It's always cool to hang out with the B's but I really liked the reps too. Most reps are so in your faace--and these 2 ( a married couple) are on the same page. It was pretty awesome.
I am reading Everything is Illuminated. I have watched the movie several times and "find it a most premium show". The book is lacking. I, like most people, find that books are generally better than the movies--but certainly not in this case. The book and movie are night and day. Completely different. And that's fine--but even being different it's a bit wordy. Kinda like this post, huh?

Rescues are a freaking joke
I have tried and tried and tried to find Lucy a home. I have contacted rescue after rescue and terrible owner after terrible owner. I wish right now my blog was public so that if anyone looks up Saint Bernard Rescues they would possibly pull up this blog to see how TOTALLY full of crap they are. These people say they want to help us but all they do is give poor advice. Thanks, but I have plenty of that. What a waste of time. Do they just like to say "I head an animal rescue organization...blah blah blah" for attention? For a pat on the back? I for one will never use a rescue. I will go to the pound. I will look in the paper. But I digress......
Jack is counting now. He's also blowing kisses--double handed--hehe. We inherited tons of toys from the Badem's tonight. The boy loves a kitchen and is completely freaked out by toy sharks in his bath tub. Now that I actually see that written-who can blame him?
Okay--time for me to write hate letters. 'night!

A gold star kinda day
Let's start with Jean and I got to sleep until noon. Ahhhhhhhhhhh....
Followed with picking up a very happy baby at Grandma and Nanna's house. After he pee-pee'd (yes, he did and yes, I said "pee-pee'd) in the potty we left to run over to the Pipe Shop. Jack visited with Dan and Aunt Kaye and Uncle Big. He really had a blast hitting everyone with a fly-swatter (somebody should discipline that kid).
Right after that we went to the Discovery Center here in the 'boro. Wow. It is WAY cooler than Adventure Science Museum in Nashville (known to us oldies as the Cumberland Science Museum) and also quite a bit cheaper. We checked out the frogs and turtles. We played in water. We ran around until the place closed. Discovery Center is located on protected Wetlands so we went on a little tour by ourselves and it was pretty awesome. There are lots of bridges ( it is the wetlands) and Jack has recently mastered "ready, set, go!" so we raced everywhere. Thank goodness it was such a beautiful day with a cool breeze and lots of shade.
We decided to run by Toot's for dinner. It's a family oriented place with a lot of noise. Perfect for a child preparing for the terrible twos. Turns out Jack loves fried dill pickle chips. His meal was free and included ice-cream and a balloon. Hello 17 month old bliss! Now, at this point Jack was EXHAUSTED and started dosing off at the table. It was hilarious. He actually wanted me to hold him and cuddle him he was so tired.
After we got in the van he got his second wind (was it Dora?). We had a gift card left over from his birthday to the Peanut Toy Gallery (thanks to Rissy, Bobby, Adrien and Zaelyn (??) ) for his first birthday. Jack picked out an old school "horse on a stick". He was GLUED to it and it was EXACTLY the price of the gift card.
We came home shortly after and played outside a bit. Jack lost his balloon but seemed to find it reasonable that the balloon's mom had called him home for dinner and he just had to go. No tears. No biggie. After coming in the house JP asked Jack if he needed to potty and Jack indicate that he did--and VOILA! Poopy in the potty.
So here I am discussing poopy, a word I would have never used 2 years ago. I'm telling you what we ate for dinner. Pretty sure these are some of the first signs of getting old. I've noticed elderly people obsess over BMs and what they have had to eat in the last 24 hours. I know this because I get the details Monday through Friday. I suppose it is a natural progression and will only get worse.
I was going to have an "adult night" next Friday but my Mom has decided to schedule a last minute "Going away Party" for my sister. Boo to not getting to go out--but yay for Melanie. I am not sure how my family will function with her not being home. She is pretty much my mom's entire world. She is very proud of Melanie and so am I. I know she will be a success.
Back to rambling....I'm gonna go ;)

The beginning and the end...
Was that a dramatic opener or what?
The Beginning:
Sarah and William (the artist formerly known as Bill) are expecting a baby! More little cousins!!! The new little lady/ gent will be here at the end of January. Will he/ she have dual citizenship since he/she will be born in England? Can someone enlighten me?
Anyways, congrats to you and your family! Life is about to be that much more beautiful...and expensive-haha!
The End:
It is the end of an era. My buddy Lori quit her first med job. She is living the dream and is working at Vandy in Trauma. She is considering NP school. Go ahead and say it, "Why would she ever leave Podiatry?". Internal Medicine asked the same thing--hehe. I will miss her smiling face around the clinic. It's not an entirely new idea. I think she was trying to wean me off by changing depts to begin with. However, it will not be the same logging on to my IM and not seeing ole "Dung Lips" listed with a green dot next to her name.
I will miss you Lori and I know that you are going to be a fantastic nurse! You already are! And if you don't keep in touch with me, just remember I know where you live.
Love you ;)
Oh-and Jack's shrek undie pics soon to follow!

Potty training!!!
We have had no intentions of potty training until Jack is 2. I have heard there is not much point to try before hand. However, this weekend Jack was going to hide behind the chair to go #2 in his diaper and I caught him. I asked if he wanted to "use the potty" and he said "mmm-hmmm" and off we went. I sat him on the potty and he went right away! We tried it again a few hours later and he went #1 in the potty too!
Jack still has lots of wet diapers and he has not TOLD me he wants to go--I am just pumped that he knows what to do and is not afraid of it. Not to mentioon that he likes to flush it!
Jean-Paul has made fun of me for telling everyone about the potty training date but this is a HUGE thing! Even if he is not officially potty trained in the next few months we have at least gotten off to a good start!
