This just in... A Tale of a Weekend in West TN

More on this... After the break...
Ok enough playing pretend news.

And now.. for the news!

I'm just going to hit the major points. We spent the weekend in Henderson TN. visiting Rachel's sister. She is matriculating at Freed Hardman University. It's a very nice campus, and I think Melanie is loving it. It seems she and her roommate get along very well.

During out stay in Jackson, which is about 25 miles out side of Henderson, Jack developed an illness. He started getting a bad fever at about 1a on Saturday night. So after a very long and sleepless night we said our goodbye's and headed back on the road home.

We got home about 5ish on Sunday and Jack had gotten a bit worse. We had started giving him alternate doses of Motrin and Tylenol at about 8a that morning, but it didn't seem to be helping. So as is our nightly ritual we gave him a bath that night and that was about the only time he seemed to be really comfortable at all that day/night.

After bath time he crashed hard. He was in bed asleep by 7p. Rachel and I thought we were out of the woods... but nea... it wasn't meant to be. At about 10p Sunday night Jack woke back up. His eyes were "glued" shut, he had snot coming from every orifice and was hot enough to light the house on fire. Needless to say he wasn't feeling good. He was up off and on all night. Well mostly up, but Rachel being supermom I didn't feel too much of the pain. When jack got us up at 4:30a Monday morning with the same awful symptoms we knew we needed to take him in.

Rachel couldn't get off of work due to her department running at a skeleton crew due to the big move over to the new clinic. I'm very lucky to work where I do. I work for two very dedicated family men who have younger children. Neither of them is very far removed from being where I am so they understood I couldn't be there. So Jack and I got to go see the doctor together and then spend the day together.

Staying at home with a sick child is a very bad thing. For starters you feel very helpless. As an adult you understand what these things are and why you feel bad, but for a little baby it has to be awful. As a baby you have no idea why, but you know that you feel awful. You don't have any real way of telling people what is wrong with you other then crying. As a parent you feel awful b/c you are watching your child go through this pain and there is nothing you can do. You know if he/she would eat just a little chicken noodle soup he/she would feel at least a little better. You also know that if this child would take it's medicine he/she would fell a hell of a lot better. But as a baby all you know is that mommy or daddy is trying to feed you some horrible tasting liquid and they won't let you escape it.

Blea...

So anyway, I'm turning a short story long. We took Jack to the Dr. today and he had a 104 fever, strep, bronchitis and an ear infection

Blea...

We've started him on meds and he appears to be doing better, but he's still not great.

Anywho.. Melanie (if you read this) We had a very fun time visiting. We'll have to do it again sometime.

I'll give you some more Jack news as it arrives.

Thanks for checking in
JP
